Celebrating the remarkable women within the BirdLife Partnership

Today, we celebrate extraordinary women nominated by the BirdLife Partnership for their leadership, dedication, and passion for nature conservation. Their journey has often been challenging, navigating male-dominated environments and cultural barriers. Yet, empowering women and girls in science is essential to tackling the biodiversity and climate crisis.

As UN Women highlights, the climate crisis is not ‘gender neutral’—women are disproportionately affected, and this will only worsen if urgent action is not taken. Science needs women as much as women need science. A diversity of voices, experiences, and perspectives is crucial to developing innovative, sustainable solutions that enable all life to thrive.

These stories showcase the inspiring women across the BirdLife Partnership who are shaping the future of conservation, ensuring that female voices and perspectives are central to protecting our planet.

Al Hima Magazine 5th Issue

This edition of Al Hima magazine weaves together inspiring stories of nature conservation and community resilience, highlighting how Lebanon is being stitched back to life—one Hima at a time. The Society for the Protection of Nature in Lebanon (SPNL) continues its mission to preserve the country’s natural heritage by empowering local communities. A cornerstone of this effort is the BioConnect project, funded by the European Union, which has achieved three national firsts: Lebanon’s first natural park (Upper Matn), first geological park (Shouf-Jezzine), and first endowment Hima (Btekhnay).
